Menus
Menus are a recurring expense for restaurants, they need to look of an
appropriate quality, they should include the companies graphics and style,
they have to be changed on a regular basis, must be accurate; they get a lot
of hard usage.
One solution is to use an insert that is attached to an outer cover. This is
updated by the manager, printed on the office printer. This, of course, is a
serious commitment, replacing the menus on such a regular basis.
Fast food restaurants go one stage further and supply high quality posters
that can be back lit and form part of the signage; the fast food chains have
the advantage of mass production and can keep their printing costs down.
Menus material
Menus can be made of card, uncoated has a pleasant appearance but
will get grubby and short while. Modern coated stock makes more
sense, it will retain its smart appearance for longer.
Best add a plastic coating to allow the staff to wipe over the menu;
this adds to the expense. Matt lamination is the normal production
process. it has the disadvantage of allowing water to seep between
the laminations; the lamination will then detach. Encapsulation always
involves two sheets of plastic and is edge sealed.. it doesn't look
quite as smart.
A modern alternative is to print straight onto a plastic material.
The main down side is its cost.
